INTERNATIONAL SCULPTOR — CHICAGO NATIVE SON

12 SEPTEMBER 1935–16 DECEMBER 2023

Richard Hunt gave a great gift to Pigment International with his graciousness and accessibility. Hunt was more than an artist he was an activist, a veteran and an overall humanist, who brought out the best in those around him. He will be greatly missed. He allowed us to visit his studio and talk with him during Black Fine Art Month (BFAM) in 2021; we were there when he was feted by the Leadership Advisory Council (LAC) of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022; he provided a tour of his studio for Delaware based sculptors Aaron and Gina Paskins and a group from Atlanta and Milwaukee in 2022; and took Sculptor D. Lamar Preston under his tutelage. We were thankful to be on hand for the unveiling of his sculpture honoring another Chicago icon, Ida B. Wells in 2021. He went to his studio every day until he passed peacefully in his sleep on December 16th. Well done good and faithful servant.
